Description

The building envelope is derived from the structural logic of the built form. The facade features large octagonal openings at alternate levels. These octagonal openings are vierendeel girders, which are an integral part of the structural system. The girders cantilever 6m on each end and are supported on vertical cores that are located 23m apart. These vertical cores are the service shafts that support long spans and allow for column-free floorplates. The girders also act as sun-breakers and a climatic device that controls the heat gain. The building facade is clad in red and beige sandstone. The cladding stone adds a visual element of regionalism to this modernist structure.
