Description
The building's facades are treated differently based on their orientation and sun exposure. The western facade has an operable timber louver system that acts as a shading device and controls the solar heat gain. The northern and southern facades have balconies, tapered ventilation ducts, and shower towers, respectively. While the eastern facade has a perforated metal skin that supports passive cooling strategies. CH2’s structure and facade are based on biomimicry inspired by the functioning of termite mounds. The main structural system relies on concrete, while lightweight steel framing is used for the external facade elements. The facade acts as an environmental interface that supports passive strategies and ensures an energy-efficient built form.
