Facade summary
Staggered cantilevered concrete balconies carrying soil-filled planters and mature vegetation, set against an insulated rainscreen clad in dark porcelain stoneware tiles.
Documented intention
The architects designed the envelope to function as a dynamic biological shield. The intention was to use living foliage to filter dust and solar radiation,absorb CO2 and noise,produce oxygen,mitigate the heat island effect, and establish a natural habitat for urban birds and insects.
Street relationship
The facade acts as a vertical continuation of the adjacent public park, transforming the dense streetscape by bringing extensive biomass into the sky and improving the visual environment at street level.
Climate relationship
The biological envelope provides seasonal environmental modulation: in summer, dense leaves block direct solar radiation and cool the interior via evapotranspiration;in winter, bare deciduous branches allow solar gains to reach the interior glazing.
Window pattern
Irregular, rhythmic distribution of large glazed openings set back behind the staggered projecting balcony frames.

Ventilated Facade

Description

The facade is dominated by heavy, irregular cantilevered reinforced concrete balconies projecting up to 3.35 meters. These balconies support large precast planters equipped with root barriers, drainage layers, and drip-irrigation systems. Behind the planters, the building envelope consists of high-performance thermally broken aluminum frames with double-glazed low-E glass. The solid opaque portions of the exterior walls are finished with an insulated ventilated rainscreen cladding system using large-format dark grey porcelain stoneware tiles. Dynamic living plants (trees, shrubs, and flowers) populate the balconies on all four orientations, customized to local solar and wind exposure.

Visual analysis

Visually, the structure appears as an ever-changing organic sculpture. The heavy grey architectural lines of the concrete terraces and dark porcelain tiles are softened by cascading foliage, turning the building into a seasonal canvas of shifting colours, textures, and shadows.
